# Turn rough notes into a clear message for a group

[Home](/) · [Examples](/practice)

Examples

**Simple** · Everyday · about 5 to 10 min

You'll go from scribbled notes to a message people can act on, with no made-up details.

Example: made up to show the idea.

**You're ready if** you've read [Lesson 2](/start/what-ai-tools-are-good-at), or you already paste your notes into your AI tool.

**Tool to reach for:** a [Chat assistant](/tools#chat-assistant). The one you already use is fine.

## Steps

1. Take out phone numbers and names the message doesn't need.
2. Open a new chat. Paste the prompt below, with your notes.
3. Read the reply next to your notes.
4. Ask for one change in the same chat, such as "shorter".
5. Copy it into your group chat and send it yourself.

## Prompt to copy

```
Rewrite my notes below as a friendly message for our residents' group chat. Use only my notes. If something isn't in them, write "not in my notes". Put when and where in the first line. Keep it under 80 words.
Notes: jumble sale Saturday morning, community centre hall, 10 to 12. Drop items off Friday 6 to 8pm. Need 2 helpers for the till. Leftovers go to the charity shop.
```

## What good output looks like

It's under 80 words, with when and where first. Every fact comes from your notes, and it asks clearly for 2 till helpers.

## Check before you trust it

**Watch for:** an added detail, such as a price or a helper's name you never gave.

Put the message next to your notes. Tick each fact in the message that's in your notes.

- **Pass:** every fact is ticked, and nothing important from your notes is missing.
- **Fail:** something you can't tick, such as a price for each item. Cut it, or add the real fact yourself.

## What goes wrong

You paste only half your notes. The tool fills the gap with a time that sounds likely. The "use only my notes" line is what stops that.

## Try it on your own task

Pick a message you need to send this week. Use your own notes and the same prompt.
