How it works, with examples
Four questions
- See
- You type or paste the text. The tool sees what you put in the chat.
- Look up
- A chat assistant writes from what you typed. It doesn't have to search the web. For something current, use Research with sources.
- Remember
- The same chat can use earlier messages in that chat. A new chat starts again.
- Allowed
- The account decides what you may put in. Check that before you paste (Lesson 5).

What goes wrong
Read the reply against the rule you set. A chat can miss that rule, or add a fact you didn't give it. Know which parts of an answer you can rely on. A made-up fact is a common miss.

Find out about something recent, with links you can open
Reach for it when you need an answer about something recent, and you'll open the links.
Stay with yours when it already searches and shows links you can open, and the check passes.

Ask about something that changed in the last few months. If your tool has a search switch, turn it on.
Pass: the reply links to pages.
Fail: it answers with no links.
Catches: an answer with no source
Open every link.
Pass: each one opens a real page.
Fail: a link is broken or goes somewhere else.
Catches: a missing or wrong source
On each page, find the claim and the date.
Pass: the page says the same, and the date is recent.
Fail: it says something else, or it's old.
Catches: a made-up or old fact
Look for claims in the reply with no link.
Pass: there are none.
Fail: there's one or more. Don't pass those claims on.

Prompt to copy
Find the latest change to [a rule, price or service you follow]. Say when it changed. Give a link I can open for each claim. If you can't find a page for a claim, say so instead of stating it.

What goes wrong
A link can be missing, old, or wrong. Open it before you pass the answer on. Know which parts of an answer you can rely on. A made-up fact is a common miss.

Pass: it names a page or section.
Fail: it doesn't.
Catches: a missing source
Go to that page or section, and read the whole sentence.
Pass: the sentence says the same, with nothing after it that changes it.
Fail: it isn't there, or the rest of the sentence changes it.
Catches: a made-up or half-quoted fact
Ask something the file doesn't answer.
Pass: the reply says it's not in the file.
Fail: it gives an answer anyway.

- The maker publishes its own help pages
- You can use it now (or it's marked preview, in the maker's words)
- It does this kind's main job
- You can use it in the EU (the maker's own pages say so)
